Michelle Obama: 'When your mom doesn't think you're a "real" celebrity'

michelleobama
When your mom doesn't think you're a "real" celebrity...Tonight in Phoenix, I shared this text thread from my mom from #Grammys night, and I just had to share it with all of you. #TextsFromMom 😂

from The Hill:

“I'm sitting here with Valerie and this text is so typically you. Did you watch it?!” Michelle replied.

“I saw it because Gracie called me. Did you meet any of the real stars or did you run right after you were done,” her mother said in response.

“I told you I was going to be on it,” Obama responded.

Her mother shot back: “No you did not. I would have remembered that even though I don't remember much.”

Obama then responds with a series of laughing emojis, writing: “I thought I told you.”

“And I am a real star...by the way,” she added.

“Yeah,” her mother replied, to which the former first lady responded with a single heart emoji.

Something that really struck me was when her mother said: "I want to be Michelle Obama when I grow up."

I thought that was the sweetest thing a mother could say to a daughter, a genuine statement of admiration. Not as a proud parent (although she has every reason to be proud) but simply as an observer.

Nice going, Mom!

What's that about a prophet not being recognized in his own home?
You're never a celebrity in your own home.
I'm the 6th of 7 children in my family. I'm 59 years old right until I'm with family. Then I will forever be 12 which is about the age the older ones started leaving for college.

It’s like with each of our social circles (family, friends) we are frozen at a given age.
