It underscores a loss, either by death or a relationship. Every year I make heart shaped sugar cookies and wrap them individually. I try and give them to people I know are hurting, in my office and in my neighborhood. It is such a little thing, takes me a half a day to make them but it always seems to cheer people up which makes it worth it.
Sometimes when we are happy we forget so many people are alone, try and remember them tomorrow.
When you are alone all you see are happy couples.

(32,044 posts)Holidays, most of them, do bring out sad and lonely feelings many times. How thoughtful of you to extend such kindness to people who may be suffering.

(12,265 posts)I was alone for 5 years after I divorced my first husband. It was a terrible time, I hated holidays. I think that is why I overdo it sometimes.

Mixed emotions here...I'll be celebrating with my husband of almost 22 years, but my dad passed away January 30, so it's love and loss for me this year.

(52 posts)My partner and I never really celebrated V-Day we believed it was all commercial, but we were always together on that day. After 23 years together he left me. Now I'm feeling the loneliness that others must feel. Silly me. I hope to get thru the day with you're sweet thoughts.
