The aggressive plans were outlined yesterday by a Democratic member of Congress at a roundtable for Washington reporters. The member said Congress plans interviews with new witnesses, and may go back to earlier witnesses who stonewalled under the Republican majority.
The reporters, many of them steeped in the special counsels investigation, came away realizing that House Dems dont plan to depend on Robert Mueller for the last word on interference in the 2016 election.

(7,142 posts)trying to bury Mueller's report. Democrats need to pull a Pentagon papers episode if that happens. The new AG, Barr, will be just as bad as Whitaker, or Trump wouldn't have picked him.
The right wing corporate controlled M$M is pushing the narrative that Democrats can't overreach in their investigations. Saying that Democrats can't overreach is a right wing talking point, I say, go for it, expose all of the cockroaches. As my 85 year old golfing buddy says, "I don't care if people watch me because I don't cheat."
There is no such thing as Democrats overreaching with their investigations, if Republicans did nothing wrong they have nothing to worry about.

overreach, that's a good one considering the vast investigation republicans did on Benghazi!! They spent several years, spent millions of taxpayer dollars & reviewed many documents. And yet that investigation found nothing illegal in either Hillary's actions or the Obama administration! It produced zero indictments on anyone!
And yet they call Mueller's investigation a 'witch hunt' despite his many indictments & guilty verdicts! But we should be careful not to overreach? Thanks GOP, I think we'll be just fine without your cautionary warnings!

exactly!! Innocent people are not bothered by full, thorough investigations because they know it will not harm them!

(5,801 posts)congressional investigations and impeachment by pursuing ridiculous examples, i.e. HRC and Beeeennnnnngggghhhaaazzziii, and Bill Clinton for any thing, finally settling on sex. I think part of their strategy has been to turn off the general public to the idea of congressional oversight and convince people that it's all just pursued for partisan ends.
Well, we can only hope that the truly egregious traitorous conduct of dirty donnie and his henchmen will register with the significance it should.

(586 posts)I am sure that is their strategy & they've tried using it for a long time! If you don't have a way to create an argument that makes you look good, the next best option is to make your opponent look so bad that no one would ever believe them anyway!! But considering the amount of time that they've been using this strategy, it doesn't appear to be working!

(9,772 posts)was his mistake. We will be hearing about trials and lawsuits for years dealing with daddy and all the way down his lineage. He put himself in the narrow limelight of the presidency not realizing what was at stake. He is just a stupid, dumb criminal.

(5,754 posts)That are open and public? That would expose a lot of the dirty money and might make a lot of folks angry, especially after they don't get a tax refund.

(586 posts)just like during Watergate when deep throat told Woodward, "follow the money". It's always about the money, especially when republicans are involved! That's why Trump told one journalist that too much investigation into his financial documents would be a red line. He knows what's included in his financial records & he knows that not all of it is legal!

Give us some truthful hint as to where we stand or make your move. Political gamesmanship at this juncture is ill advised and will only serve to undo some of the Special Counsels good works. Thats what I think. This opinion and $5 will get you a cupa Joe.

(16,113 posts)Its likely the report wouldnt be made public right away (in its entirety) for fear of compromising a pending prosecution. Congress will get some sort of briefing on this, though, which will ensure some information gets out. I think if the full report is released right away, it will be because theyre not recommending any prosecutions, and even then there will be redactions for privacy or security related issues.

(16,113 posts)Why is he running the investigation? What value is an investigation where no one trusts the investigator? Will they trust Mueller if he makes a case that Trump has broken the law?
