The same Obama who was a secret Muslim, with the same former Secretary of State who was grilled for 11 hours, the same Obama who was accused by the right wing of letting Saudi Arabia bring terrorist training camps into the US (Whatever happened to that meme anyway? Trump said he was going to look into it. What happened?), that same Barack Obama.
If Jamal Khashoggi was murdered when Obama was President and refused to give Senators info on what they know, can anyone imagine that the response would have been "Oh well, we might complain about it... There's more important things to do, like complain about the Jew Gold of George Soros secretly funding the opinions of people we don't like! GEORGE SOROS! And socialism is coming!"?
Anyone?

(10,839 posts)when one of the Trumpster's backers--Tom Barrack--has the gall to defend the Saudi's, say that Khashoggi's murder is far less odious than the sins of the West, we shouldn't be surprised. No doubt, Barrack was whispering in the Trumpster's ear, the whole whataboutism tune that's become so popular. This, for instance:
The atrocities in any ... country are dictated by the rule of law, he continued. So for us to dictate what we think is the moral code there, when we have a young man and regime that is trying to push themselves into 2030, I think is a mistake.
So murder, slicing and dicing a critic is okay because . . . The Rule of Law for tyrants says so and the crime is secondary to the idea of pushing your country into modernity.
Good to know.
And Barrack is one of the zillionaires who would--behind the scenes, of course--rule the world. You know like the Mercers or Peter Thiel, etc. Because money makes you better, smarter, more immune to atrocity as long as you have the Big Picture. And in that Big Picture human decency, the Rule of Law and the quaint idea of democracy is whatever you say it is.
Opinions from the rabble are not appreciated.
Oy!
Would this have happened during the Obama Administration? No, it would not. Nor would the cavalier attitude to murder have happened under any Democratic Administration with advisors defending the indefensible. Because the Rule of Law is not subject to daily interpretation; we're not reading chicken bones or checking the horoscope in the 21st Century.
Sickening!

(7,142 posts)one of the topics in Davos was advancing AI so that the super rich can do away with humans. Many of the super rich are in favor of depopulation, Bill Gates included.
This is the endnote for unfettered capitalism: when the system devours itself. And everyone else.

(442 posts)Any Democratic President would have been impeached 2 months in for 1/50th of what we've seen out of the trump misadministration.
but Republicans have the advantage of the corporate controlled right wing M$M backing them up.
Too bad that Steyer and Bezos couldn't buy out a cable news network, or start one of their own that was truly unbiased and bipartisan. Fuck that, one that was really liberal. I can pick some of the anchors; Charley Pierce, Stephanie Miller, Keith Olbermann, Dylan Ratigan, yes Thom Hartmann. Now that would be money well spent guys.

(7,142 posts)hell he may have even been a party to it, but nevertheless, he had a duty to inform Khashoggi of the threat to his life.
