Today is Basketball Legend Bill Russel's 85 birthday. He is considered one of the best players

of all time.

There's too much to say about him here so I'm posting the Wikipedia page. He's an amazing man in many different ways. Obama presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 for his accomplishments on the court and in the Civil Rights Movement.

In Russell's honor the NBA renamed the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player trophy in 2009: it is now the Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award.

Baseball Hall-of-Famer Frank Robinson, who passed away February 7th, was one of Russell's high school basketball teammates at McClymonds High School in Oakland, California.

He was my Dad's favorite player when I was a kid - so he's always been mine, too!
