...of course she does."I have always been concerned about preserving Roe v. Wade" Collins said Monday, adding that Kavanaugh had given her assurances during his confirmation process that the landmark opinion was safe.
"He said under oath many times, as well as to me personally many times, that he considers Roe to be 'precedent upon precedent' because it had been reaffirmed in the Casey v Planned Parenthood case," Collins added, dismissing any criticism of her as partisan politics.
Her comments came after Kavanaugh dissented last Thursday from the court's decision to put a Louisiana law on hold pending appeal. The law, similar to one in Texas that the court previously struck down, would require abortion providers to obtain admitting privileges in a nearby hospital, something critics say would severely limit access to abortions.

(173 posts)successful in Maine is the appearance of independence. Anyone who appears to toe the party line too much likely to be defeated. Her act is starting to be seen for what it is here.

(15,349 posts)We need to stop allowing her to hide behind the "I'm a moderate" bullshit she tries to pull. She pulls that shit right up until she has to demonstrate that she has any fucking courage.
She WANTS to repeal Roe...she just doesn't want to have to admit it.
She can go fuck herself sideways with a hard cover, First Edition copy of Atlas Shrugged. She's nothing but an Ayn Randian amphibian turd.

(23,926 posts)Once every two years (coincidentally they always turned out to be election years) she was a "moderate". Then, safely ensconced within the safety of a Republican House majority she would proceed to cast a straight party-line, anti-Obama, and later pro-Trump vote.
Last year the good folks of VA-10 finally wised up and invited her to go piss up a rope.

(33,409 posts)She has always been concerned about being concerned about her concerns.
In Oct, 2018:
Minutes after Sen. Susan Collins announced her support for Brett Kavanaugh, the site to fund her opponent was so overwhelmed that it crashed
As of now:
Fund Susan Collins' Future Opponent
Her "concern" is currently worth over $3.7 million, to her opponent.

(63,919 posts)I commented the same thing, vote her out. She has enough money she can go. I can think of a few others.
Congress especially the Senate needs to be cleaned out, too much corruption esp. McConnell he has to go. He's the obstructionist.

(1,943 posts)After roe v wade is overturned, we'll have a whole new economic phenomenon, "abortion tourism!", no?

I'd be there are plenty of born-again evangelical women of means who've had to make sudden shopping trips to NYC, Paris, London, etc.

(23,363 posts)An "abortion tourism" industry? Why not? Where there's demand ...
We have medical and pharmaceutical tourism already, folks near the border can get drugs cheaper in Mexico or Canada. Dentists along Mexico's northern border get a lot of "tourist" business. I think you can get a vacation/surgery package to India for non-emergencies, like knee or hip replacements.
If "single-payer" ever gets realized, that'll kill the medical tourism industry.

(82,849 posts)Please note that Justice Boof wanted to leave in place the Louisiana law, which is substantially similar to a Texas law that's already been overturned as unconstitutional. That would indicate that Justice Boof is perfectly consonant with the notion of overturning precedent upon precedent, which means that you're a very poor judge of character or predictor of behavior. Perhaps you should take this opportunity to shut up more until you've improved your abilities.
As for Justice Boof, given his imperviousness to seeing any undue burdens in regard to women's health, let's put a few restrictions on, say, buying beer. The next time Justice (I like beer) Boof goes to buy beer, the clerk should tell him his drivers license isnt good enough proof that hes of age, and says he has to have some other form of ID.
Then, when he gets that additional ID, the clerk tells him he needs someone to swear that that is his personal ID. He'll also need another witness to swear that Justice Boof can and does handle alcohol consumption responsibly, and the witness will be personally liable for any damage Justice Boof might do. Then, after he gets those witnesses to so attest, the clerk says he can have his beer, but he first needs to watch a little video from the Temperance League about the medical risks of alcohol consumption both verified and only rumored. Then, after hes watched the five hour video, complete with graphic color photos of diseased livers, jaundice, hepatitis, and various cancers, the clerk says he has to undergo a trans-anal ultrasound to be sure he hasn't already damaged his body through alcohol consumption. And the physician administering the probe has to have admitting privileges at the hospital where the probe is done.
Assuming everything checks out, then Justice Boof has to wait 72 hour before he can finally buy his beer. You know, just to be sure hes not buying beer on an impulse. And none of this would be an undue burden.
