Also, I imagine some of these folks are kind of pissed off at rump's engineered shut down of government (no reason/rationale at all), depriving them of possible paychecks, putting them under unimaginable stress, etc.
Perhaps if another shut down event looms, more federal and/or others outside the federal workforce will step up and say NO! I'd be there besides them.

(3,131 posts)The article seems to say that the controllers calling in sick was the main thing since that shutdown flights (and LaGuardia in nyc).
TSA absentee rate increased from 3% to 5-7% in January. That caused delays through security but that was a (major) inconvenience not a financial disaster.
