Trump accused of breaking law after refusing to report to Congress on Khashoggi's brutal killing

Dictator don ignores law....

===========

The White House on Friday signaled President Donald Trump will ignore a request from a bipartisan group of senators to investigate and report on the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's brutal killing.

Senators on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in October invoked the Global Magnitsky Act of 2016 in response to Khashoggi's killing, which gave the president 120 days to provide Congress with a report on his findings and how he plans to react.

The Global Magnitsky Act is an Obama-era law named for Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian accountant and whistleblower who died in a Russian prison after suffering serious abuse. The law expanded on previous legislation, the Magnitsky Act, which imposed sanctions on Russians accused of being involved in serious human-rights violations.

The updated law offers a path for the US to impose sanctions on people who've committed gross human-rights violations outside of Russia. It also includes a requirement for the president to respond within 120 days to requests from the heads of a number of congressional committees with a report on whether a "foreign person" has committed human-rights violations and if sanctions will be imposed.

This has to change, I am not sure how it can be done, but ignoring the laws and getting away with it is unacceptable, it doesn't matter where you are in the power ladder, the position of the president of the USA is a job like any other, granted that it has a heavier weight of responsibilities, but he is still a servant of the people and to disregard the laws like the orange buffoon and his republicans minions do has to end.

He pretty much got off scott-free after conspiring with Iranian hostage takers to steal the election from Jimmy Carter, selling weapons to Iran and diverting the proceeds from those sales to the Contras. A few of his aides got their hands slapped, but that was it. TINY MUSTN'T BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH HIS CRIMES!!!!!

U.S. still probing journalist Khashoggi murder: Pompeo

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - The U.S. government will continue investigating the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a visit to Hungary on Monday.

“America is not covering up for a murder,” he said, adding that the United States would take more action to hold accountable all those responsible for Khashoggi’s death.

The U.S.-based Saudi journalist was slain inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October. After initially denying his death, Saudi Arabia has confirmed that its agents killed him but denied its senior leaders were behind the killing.

The Trump administration had faced a Feb. 8 deadline to submit a report to Congress on who was responsible for Khashoggi’s death and whether Washington would impose sanctions on those behind the killing.

Jared Kushner discussed classified information from the president's daily briefing with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who bragged that he had Kushner "in his pocket" ...

Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, had access to the briefing, a highly sensitive intelligence update meant to be seen by only the president and his top advisers, before being stripped of his top-secret security clearance last month.

Before losing that access, Kushner was particularly interested in information about the Middle East ...

... The conversation between Prince Mohammed and the aide, Turki Aldakhil, took place in September 2017, as officials in the kingdom were growing increasingly alarmed about Mr. Khashoggi’s criticisms of the Saudi government. That same month, Mr. Khashoggi began writing opinion columns for The Washington Post, and top Saudi officials discussed ways to lure him back to Saudi Arabia.

In the conversation, Prince Mohammed said that if Mr. Khashoggi could not be enticed back to Saudi Arabia, then he should be returned by force. If neither of those methods worked, the crown prince said, then he would go after Mr. Khashoggi “with a bullet,” according to the officials familiar with one of the intelligence reports, which was produced in early December

President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner has been a promoter of Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman since the early days of the administration and recently offered the prince advice on how to handle the outrage over the slaying of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, The New York Times reported Saturday.

Kushner, 37, who serves as Trump's adviser on the Middle East, has kept up informal conversations with the prince, 33, since early 2017, the Times reported, citing unnamed sources. Three former senior officials told the paper that the politically inexperienced Kushner's private chats with Mohammed could have made him "susceptible to Saudi manipulation."

Khashoggi was killed on Oct. 2 by Saudi agents at the country's consulate in Istanbul. Although the administration has played down reported evidence linking the slaying to the prince and cautioned lawmakers not to take action against Saudi Arabia in response to the killing, senators say U.S. intelligence reports clearly implicate the crown prince ...
