Trump Supporters Have NO Self-Respect ...

… and that, IMHO, is their biggest problem.

They don’t care if they’re lied to, because they’ve abandoned the idea that they are owed the truth.

They don’t care if they’re cheated out of their hard-earned money by way of tax scams that benefit the wealthy, because they don’t value their own worth.

They don’t care that they are expected to abandon the tenets of their religious beliefs, because they see themselves as unworthy of adhering to their own long-held principles.

They don’t care if their “pResident” pulls statistics out of his ass and fabricates “facts” that have no basis in reality, because they accept the idea that they are too stupid to understand anything beyond what they are told to believe.

They don’t care if children are torn from their parents at the border, because people of far more intelligence than they are capable of have decreed such actions as necessary.

They don’t care if their “pResident” does things they once found abhorrent, because they believe their opinions are not worthy of respect.

They don’t care if their livelihoods disappear as a result of their “pResident’s” policies, because they don’t see themselves as worthy of being able to feed their families, pay their bills, or hope for a better life.

Trump has done more than rob citizens of their rights and freedoms. He has convinced them that they have no right to expect a place at the table, a voice deserving to be heard, or a chance to realize the American Dream. And his supporters have accepted all of this without question, because they have allowed themselves to be cast in the role of being too dumb, too uneducated, too lowly to challenge the Great Oz who hides behind the curtain of an office he was never legitimately elected to hold.

Trump supporters are the battered wives of our country. They have been convinced of their own inability to survive without their abuser’s say-so. They have accepted their own inability to change their fate. They have accepted the idea that there is no other recourse than to submit to the abuse and hope that things will somehow get better – all the while knowing, deep down inside, that they won’t.

This is what we’re up against – not convincing people that their “pResident” is a lying idiot who doesn’t give a flying fuck about them, but convincing them to reclaim their own self-respect.

If you believe you are unworthy of respect, no respect will be given you. If you believe you are somehow deserving of being beaten into submission, the beatings will continue. If you believe you are too stupid, too weak, too unworthy of speaking up against your abuser, you are seeing yourself through his eyes, instead of your own. And in the doing, you are empowering him.

There can be no compromise with those who have relinquished their own responsibilities as citizens. There can be no negotiation with those who have accepted the idea that they have no right to negotiate anything. There can be no meeting-of-the-minds with those who have been persuaded that their minds are inferior to those who hold office.

Simply put, until Trump supporters develop the necessary fortitude to reclaim their own self-respect, they are victims of their own lack thereof.

What we are currently living with is the consequence of people who have no respect for themselves trying to convince the rest of us that a lack of self-respect is somehow superior to demanding respect for ourselves and our fellow citizens.

And that lack of self-respect will, in the end, be their ultimate undoing.

Conservativism depends on Self-Righteous judgement. Judgement of all others who don’t toe the same media line. I doubt they think about repercussions of any of their stances—why would they? They are “Right!” and any attempt to present info that contradicts their ego-sources —the Reich Wing judgement media machine—is too threatening to them, so out of their judgy, manipulated, self-referential world-view that they must immediately attack or run.

They proud that facts and fact checkers don’t matter to them. They are proud of their leader who tells it like it is, no matter what anyone else says. Тhey are proud of the lies they hold self evident come hell or high water. They are proud. They have their country back, a country that never existed.

Hannah Arendt wrote the book on Totalitarianism
If Hannah was alive today MAGAts would only get a footnote. There’s nothing new here, just the same old shit.

The Origins of Totalitarianism (excerpts)

The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist.

Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow.

One could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of the falsehood, they would admire the leaders for their clever tactics .

In an ever-changing, incomprehensible, world (these people) had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing ...

Some Democrats are not immune from a similar affliction as we have seen in the not too distant past.

Fortunately, a vast majority of Democrats stay true to the party and its principles, holding leaders accountable especially when they enter and exit the party for the sake of convenience.

One phenomenon I have noticed over the last 40 years is that the American people think less and less of themselves as the economic slide continues. If you look at photos of street scenes from the 1960’s before Austerity and Trickle Down and Neoliberal Economic Domestic Policies, you see people who are proud of themselves, optimistic, energetic. Look at street scenes of today and you see people who look pessimistic, sloppy, slobs, depressed, poor grooming, with sad body language.
They are reflecting the sad state of the economy for about the 40% of Americans. Many of these people were left behind and they voted for Trump out of anger. We need to give them some realistic hope to win.

are thrilled with the affirmation Trump provides that their bigotry is correct and normal. This normality as it is presented, is a new thing to those young enough to not have lived during a time when it was normal. Those of us who do remember those times are shocked that it has appeared again, and there are no consequences for those that embrace it. It's like a recurrence of a disease that we thought was eradicated 50 years ago.

And I don't mean Mr. NanceGreggs' well written article. I mean the constant MSM seemingly rabid fascination with this type of voter (the rump voter). This voter has expressed that they felt ignored, etc. and that is why they voted for rump.

I'd rather hear by far about the other type of voter, who doesn't ignore the plight of others in need, or those others who are hurting or lacking in some way. In short, they advocate a helping hand to help pull up others
versus an elbow in the face that a rump voter would do.

Maybe this is what we're seeing, the coming or arrival of the ME ME ME generation (rump voters) versus those that are truly concerned with helping others. As we all know, those with the ME complex are shockingly selfish, totally unaware of the needs of others, etc. Perhaps a result of too much pandering by parents.

Maybe like the documentaries I've seen on the ME complex, 'real' life will kick these people (ME) in the shins and wake them (ME) up on how the real world works. It's just a matter of time that they (ME) find out that people are tired of their (ME) antics, tired of their (ME) laziness, tired of their (ME) complaining, etc. I know I am.

Take care!

Yes, it is a cult. Trump keeps them in his corner by sending tweets. How special is that!? It makes them feel important to be contacted by the president. He grooms them and makes them feel like members of a very special group. This same stroking technique is also used by some so called religions to keep people under their spell.

They convince themselves that it’s all everyone else’s fault. That they are the victims who have all the odds stacked against them.

The Drumpf supporters in my circle -- friends, neighbors, coworkers, former classmates -- are thriving. Most all are college educated with successful careers, healthcare, beautiful homes, kids in good schools, international travel, retirement nest eggs, etc. They're life-long Republicans who always vote for the candidate with the R behind his or her name. They knew exactly what Fat Nixon was when they voted for him: 1) a Republican and 2) not Hillary.

You won't convince any of them to vote Dem with that sort of psychobabble.

Two ladies I am good friends with are both the nicest, caring etc people you can imagine. Yet they both are Trump voters. It is bewildering but if you’re glued only to Hannity, Coulter, and Limbaugh you are as brainwashed as the Germans who were listening only to Goebbels.

The genesis of this here was late in Reagan’s 2nd term, when he may have been already in early Alzheimers, going along with jettisoning the long standing Fairness Doctrine. That beget the relentless right wing propaganda machine. And here we are, decent people have had their brains changed.

Still more of us non hypnotized folks out there, we need to keep voting like we did in 2018 and keep fighting to get our country back.

42. it all begins with fear
Tue Feb 12, 2019, 10:32 AM
Feb 2019

no matter how proud a trump supporter (or any hardcore republican supporter) may present himself, no matter how much self respect or assuredness they may seem to have their fears form the basis of everything about them. they are not proud of anything, they are afraid of those who are different. a person that is truly proud of their heritage is not terrified of anyone else's. a person who has self respect does not feel the need to degrade others.
the republican party has used fear, as all fascists always have, and once you have people in fear, you can get them to believe anything and eventually act how you wishes, or not act to stop you. do not ever let anyone try to convince you that trump is an anomaly, he is a perfect representative of the republican party with one difference. he is too arrogant to realize most Americans are not conservative and do not agree with him. the republican leadership do not disagree with trump, they have worked for the same things as he, but they understand they are not in the majority, so they act more covertly.
the fear the everyday republican supporters have destroys their self respect, without that self respect, they don't trust their own intelligence, so they believe anything they are told by their "saviors". also, since they don't trust their own intelligence, knowledge becomes the enemy, hence, anyone seeking knowledge, such as scientists. ergo, science is part of their enemies list.
people like this also cannot understand that other people do not have this fear, so they cannot understand that others have a different thought process. that is why, when President Barack Obama was first elected, the republicans tried to present his supporters as looking to him as a Christ like savior. they knew their supporters would not be able to understand, the average liberal does not think that way. we do not look for one person to save us or our nation. we look for a leader to lead our nation. that is why when trump saying he was the only one who could fix things, iinstead of being offended, fearful Americans bought it hook line and sinker.
