@RepJayapal, 1h1 hour ago
Do you know what kind of damage has been done to children and families across the country? Children who will never get to see their parents again. Do you understand the magnitude of that? This is about more than my passion. This is about the children's future, Mr. Whitaker.

I'm in shock - and I agree - share the hearts with others

(82,849 posts)There are two full years of outrages that have backed up. Despite the best efforts of Sen. McConnell and Rep. Ryan to tamp down the scandals, smooth over the rough edges, and try to starve the atrocities of oxygen in hopes they'd go unnoticed or unremarked, there's a new order at work in Washington. I am encouraged so far at the efforts by the new House majority to go back and start turning over these rocks.
Republican bleating about all the pent-up investigations should be ignored: They had two years to do something - anything - about the heinous acts happening right before their eyes, and they didn't do squat.

(12,429 posts)Not only to the children and their families but also the people who carry out this policy and the supporters who accepted it. I am surprised, and saddened, that Trump still had any supporters after this. Nothing is as important to our humanity as the protection of the innocent. All of our morality, and ethics, and law, and aspirations as a species boil down to that one objective.

(7,901 posts)Those children and their parents are supposed to be protected under existing US law and longstanding international treaty. This administration and its enablers have planned to undermine the rule of law in all capacities. More than a year ago they examined the outcomes and decided on the plan we have seen in action.
If it was Iran accused of the same actions Trump would be yelling about war crimes. Which is exactly what these are.
The excuse that the children are presumed to be felonious criminals by crossing the border doesn't square with the claims of asylum or refugee status nor international law.
The jackboot is on the other foot.
