(18,770 posts)Kind, smart, brave and pithy. A truly GREAT American. I just heard this am that he was on the floor of the house as a page when FDR gave his Day of Infamy speech!

Though my personal preference at the moment is restoring the public option to the ACA and move on from there.

(67,782 posts)....a happy day - happy because we had him working for us for 59 years, his father for 20+ years before him and his wife is still working for Americans.

(58,785 posts)And now I want to cry. At 92 he was younger and more in tune than many of his colleagues, wonderfully himself right to the end. "Lighten up, nerd." Lol. Lighten up, nation.
I just learned the other day that his last big contribution to us is a memoir, published 2 months ago, which goes back over 80 years of congressional memories, not 59, because he worked as a child in his congressman father's office and then as a house page starting at 11 -- his father had him assigned to the Republicans side so he wouldn't get any special treatment. I snagged an already used copy which should be here very soon. Can't wait.
