Trump Will Use 'Socialism' Charge to Rally Republicans

February 8, 2019 at 8:06 am EST By Taegan Goddard

“Democrats are flirting with socialism in ways they carefully and clearly ran away from in the past, handing President Trump a new way to unify Republicans — and to club his opponents,” Axios reports.

“It started with Democrats sitting silently as he railed against socialism in his State of the Union speech. It intensified with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s release of a Green New Deal, a vague policy manifesto loaded with big-government policies.”

“The surge is unlikely to abate: Young, Twitter- and social-savvy Democrats favor socialism over capitalism. And no Democrat in politics today plays the social media game with more savvy than AOC.”

2. My hope is that all the smart Democrats will explain exactly what socialism is and give lots of good

...examples of programs we have in our country like social security and Medicare etc that are “socialist” and also great economies and democracies that are “socialist” line Germany and Denmark etc and explain how those people live and what exactly it really means.

Just like the name “liberal” has been smeared by the GOP to mean something bad, they are trying to do that to define socialism as evil. The reality is so many Americans are ignorant and have no understanding of what socialism actually is and means and they couldn’t accurately define it or differentiate it from communism if they were asked to do so. Ironically those that seem most afraid of socialism when scared by GOP politicians, are the ones that most benefit from it and need it and actually like it if they understood exactly what it actually is and means.

Here is to the smart democrats in our party that can clearly articulate and make it really clear what “socialism” is and to explain what the GOP really stands for and has done for the rich and grifters....

you are losing.

Of course Germany and Denmark are capitalist anyway but they have some "socialism" mixed in just like we do.

See Detkefk’s post and thread below for the “Scandinavian Model” of Democratic Capitalism mixed with good regulations etc

Like I said - there will be some smart Democratic Leaders that will do this and help educate the Americans to understand socialism is a great thing for America and for them. For rich Billionaires - not so much.

11. If you look in on a right wing website and read their comments about socialism

what you quickly realize is they are all using the same talking points when challenged by a liberal that programs like social security and medicare are examples of socialism. They like those programs, so they have taken to denying that they are examples of socialism, then call the liberal poster a name for suggesting it, and belittle the liberal poster for not knowing what socialism is. Their talking point is consistent - that those are "social programs", and therefore "not examples of socialism".

Seriously.

Republicans are so scared of their own shadows that they take comfort in supporting a dim witted creature that casts no shadow at all.

I think it's stupid to call yourself a socialist Dem and it doesn't help our party either.

I am about as old as one can be and be Gen X and I have taught X, Millennials, and Z and they do NOT have the hard on for socialism that Boomers and olders do. It'll be fine.

We have to stop changing our message that will resonate with most people just because it might make some older people uncomfortable. Republicans will always find something to bitch about.
