The vote was not a ruling on the legal merits of the Louisiana restriction, but the decision to keep the law on hold signals that a majority of the justices have doubts about its constitutionality.

Passed by the state legislature in 2014, the measure requires any doctor offering abortion services to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. Two Louisiana doctors and a clinic filed a legal challenge, arguing that it was identical to a Texas law the Supreme Court struck down in 2016. In that ruling, joined by Justice Kennedy, the court said Texas imposed an obstacle on women seeking access to abortion services without providing them any medical benefits.

Move left after he got on the court? I know he jumped ship and let the Orange Rat Fucker nominate a replacement, but Kennedy was often a swing vote and was a Rep nominee.

I always HOLD OUT hope that these people ARE very smart and eventually they'll understand things. This happened with Kennedy, maybe it will happen with Roberts. 0 chance it will happen with Clarence or Pabsts Blue Kavanaugh.

I've seen this especially in social issues where the public opinion is embracing a liberal view. Roberts knows long term opposing abortion is a losing issue for conservatives.

He is unwilling to buck popular opinion, especially on issues which would enflame the non-voting masses (like abortion). this goes doubly so right now with the prospect of our taking full control of the government in 2020 and the threat of packing the court
