Rep. Rob Woodall won't seek re-election in 2020 (GA 7th); Bourdeaux running again
U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall will not be seeking re-election in the 2020 election cycle, his office confirmed to the Daily Post on Thursday.
Woodall, a Republican from Lawrenceville who represents Georgias 7th Congressional District, said his decision was based on recent personal and political events.
Serving Georgias 7th Congressional District in Congress has been one of the greatest honors of my life, with each term being an amazing opportunity to serve and to make a difference, Woodall said. Running for the first time in 2010 marked a new chapter in my life. I have realized over this past year of change both in politics and in my family that the time has come for me to pass the baton and move to the next chapter, and so I have decided not to seek re-election in 2020.

WASHINGTON Within minutes of Congressman Rob Woodalls, R-Lawrenceville, announcement that he would not seek re-election in 2020, Carolyn Bourdeaux said she planned to jump into the 7th District contest.
<snip>
The race to represent the 7th District, which includes portions of Gwinnett and Forsyth County, was the closest congressional contest in the country last year. Once lily white and deeply conservative, the district is now at the center of the demographic shifts that have transformed Atlantas wealthy suburbs into political battlegrounds.
The 7th District contest only received a fraction of the attention as the neighboring 6th District last year -- most outside money went there or to the governors race -- but thats widely expected to change over the next 21 months.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has already short-listed the 7th District as a prime pickup opportunity for 2020, and Democratic Party of Georgia Chairwoman Nikema Williams said the district is a microcosm of the new Georgia as a whole.
