This to me is the next big dream of the 1%, getting rid of a another rung of the labor ladder.
The software has been tested and looks very effective. Convincing anyone to use it and getting permission to use the roads in a mixed environment is another thing.,

(45,851 posts)Audi had a self driving car that navigated the Pikes Peak hill climb in 2010, I'd trust it going up Pikes Peak before I would several of my family members..

(45,851 posts)I spent a good chunk of my work life troubleshooting and repairing electronics, those jobs have been disappearing for a decade or more because so much stuff these days is basically not possible to repair even if you could get the parts, which you for the most part can't. Robotics made electronics so cheap there's no point in paying someone to fix a lot of it, if it breaks you throw it away and buy another.
Our paradigm of how people get the income to live is going to have to change in a radical manner, this will only accelerate the process.
Maybe they can program the 18 wheeler model not to tailgate.

(595 posts)they day I can get in my car... or a car... and take a nap to and from work will be a great day... I imagine vacations where I spend a day at one town and wake up in another... that would rock
a side note... accidents will go down and people will be safer when people are out of the driving equation.
