His rebuttal will follow hers.
From his twitter feed: "Stacey Abrams is a great choice to deliver the Democratic response. I'm very much looking forward to her speech.
For the third year in a row, following the Democratic rebuttal I'll be on Facebook Live, Twitter and YouTube to respond to Trump."

(6,530 posts)I think that's where the story came from-- people aren't making it up out of whole cloth.
I truly hope Sanders will speak AFTER the Dem response.

(8,206 posts)I do understand that DUers aren't making it up; I'm just trying to stop a vicious and false rumor. But the Bernie hate here is strong. People will believe what they want to believe.
Edited to add: I'm not referring to you.

(4,974 posts)the Hill:
The senator's office confirmed to The Hill that his response will follow Trump's State of the Union address as well as the Democratic rebuttal and be streamed on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
It says specifically follow Trumps SOTU as well as the Dem rebuttal.
Follow is not the same as at the same time. Not in my dictionary anyway.

(6,530 posts)"Sanders, who is an independent but caucuses with Democrats, will be delivering his response at the same time that former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams delivers the official Democratic Party response."
That was the text at the time of my posting. The Hill updated the story @ 1955.
But thanks, thanks so fucking much for your vote of confidence.

(354 posts)I think with a quite wide open competition on who can easily put Trump crawling back to his bed crying would be hot, hot and hot.
I welcome Bernie with open arms, and see if he can still sway me.

(34,115 posts)I do not care if he is a Dem or an I. I agree with much of what he says but there are things I certainly do not agree with. I do not think he should run, I like what he has been doing very much so I would like him to keep that up. He will do what he thinks is right. I have never understood the need to shut out someone who works with your party, someone the party leaders seem to not dismiss and actually welcome. I guess that is not typical these days. I hate the thought of being put out of the party by their actions again (I was an I for a while but have returned, get this, because of Bernie) but so far I do not see them acting like the party I left here so I am good. We need to hit Trump from every angle and if that takes an Indie move by Bernie to help hit him then he will do it. As an I he is not held to a certain standard or place.

(14,249 posts)Stacey Abrams is giving the rebuttal on behalf of the Democrats. So who is his rebuttal on behalf of?
And in what capacity is he giving a rebuttal? As a Senator? No other Democratic Senator feels the need to give one. As a Presidential candidate? No other Democratic presidential candidate is giving one.
So, why is he giving rebuttal and whose behalf is he giving it?
Autumn
(45,120 posts)Maxine Waters, Donna Edwards Elizabeth Guzman, Joe Kennedy and Bernie. Bernie streamed his on the internet. He's giving it because he can.

(14,249 posts)"Because he can."
Thanks for the honest response.

Hortensis
(58,785 posts)because it is a bit and for some reason seems more so this year. But he won't overlap with (elected governor) Stacey Abrams delivering the Democratic response, and so it's certainly harmless. This'll be his third year, so it's probably becoming a little tradition for those who seek him out.
Autumn
(45,120 posts)he continues to do so for a long time.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)the massive Republican anti-government corruption that kept Stacey Abrams, who unquestionably was the choice of a majority of Georgians who voted or tried to, from being sworn in? Perhaps he sent out a reminder for all to be sure to watch her response?
It may seem strange for it to seem more important this year, but Abrams is more than just a rising Democrat, she's a symbol and living evidence of what's going terribly wrong with our democracy.

(34,115 posts)I will try to follow people online to know when it is over then turn the channel. I like her very much and want to hear her speak. Then over to Bernie. Are there others? If there are I want to hear them as well. The more sides of an issue that can be hit the better off we are. The more ideas we have the better off we are and the more Trump gets hit the better off we are.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)though their ideas of what is worth noting may not be quite what I'd wish, of course. You will hear all the ideas presented, and I hope they'll all be well worth listening to.

(8,206 posts)From 2018: "There will be the official Democratic response by Massachusetts Rep. Joe Kennedy, and the Spanish language response by Virginia Delegate Elizabeth Guzman.
Then theres former presidential candidate (and rumored 2020 contender) Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who will be live-streaming his response over Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif, will be delivering an exclusive rebuttal on BET. And former Democratic congresswoman Donna Edwards will be delivering a response on behalf of the Working Families Party on Facebook."

(14,249 posts)Can you answer my question? Why does Bernie need to do a rebuttal this year, especially since the party decided to streamline its message through one person? In what capacity is he speaking? As a Senator? As a presidential candidate? As the leader of a movement? On whose behalf is he speaking and why does he believe that Stacey Abrams is inadequate to carry the message he wants to convey?
Autumn
(45,120 posts)don't watch TV. He is speaking as a United States Senator, as is his right.

It suggests that the Democratic Response is inadequate---that only he can do it right. And steps on the spotlight of the first African American woman to give the Democratic Response.
