Court filings by the Trump administrations Health and Human Services (HHS) Department have argued that it could be traumatic to remove migrant children from sponsors homes and reunite them with their parents, suggesting that such action would present grave child welfare concerns.
It would destabilize the permanency of their existing home environment, and could be traumatic to the children, Jonathan White, who is in charge of the the departments efforts to reunite the separated children with their parents, said in the filings, the Associated Press (AP) reported. The agency also suggested that the reunification would take extraordinary effort, arguing that the administration should simply focus on reuniting children being held in custody, not those released to sponsors.
President Donald Trumps controversial policy to separate migrant children from their parents drew national and international outrage last year, with a federal court in June inevitably ordering the government to suspend the policy and reunite the impacted families. However, a report released by the Inspector General of the HHS in mid-January revealed that the administration did not even know how many thousands of children were separated and was struggling to account for those who had been released to sponsors prior to the court decision.
Thousands of children may have been separated during an influx that began in 2017, before the accounting required by the court, and HHS has faced challenges in identifying separated children, the report from the agency admitted.
The American Civil Liberties Union has slammed the Trump administrations position. A hearing is scheduled for February 21 to determine whether the government will be required to reunite the children who were released before the June court order.
The Trump administrations response is a shocking concession that it cant easily find thousands of children it ripped from parents, and doesnt even think its worth the time to locate each of them, Lee Gelernt, the lead ACLU attorney, said, according to the AP..........................

(15,805 posts)incompetents. They fucked up bigly and finally realized that Miller's diabolitical, Naziesque scheme to destroy the lives of thousands of innocent souls are being labeled as crimes against humanity.
As it damned well should be, and the ACLU is going to make sure all those kids and their families receive mega financial awards for the lifetime of emotional traumas that will suffer. The costs will far exceed whatever Faustian fantasy that Trump imagined would score him bonus points amongst the knuckle dragger set as they attempt to unwind the depth of horrors that the whole world now associates with the American people.

This is NOT America - this is just the worst thing imaginable - and the idiot has done NOTHING to end it - fix it - put these families back together.

This is insane. The guy who thought that he was being chased by zombies and snakes could do a better job than the piece-o-filth currently in our White House.

(11,885 posts)Also admits they know it was traumatic removing them from their parents to begin with. This will prove to be bad for them when their lawsuits start against them for what they've done to these children to begin with, and civil suits will also start getting filed against all of them involved in time. They knew it was an intentional act to damage these children, and this is not going to end well for trump and his minions in court.

makes me think that they have already released many of them (probably the younger children) for adoption and they don't want that to get out.
