I was looking at the poll numbers in the 2017 Virginia Gubernatorial Election Democratic Primary,

I found out that last poll numbers before the Democratic Primary Result had Perriello-D defeating Northam-D by a 54-46 percent margin conducted by Change Research. Northam won the Democratic Primary by a 56-44 percent margin.
Why did not the Perriello-D campaign researched the Northam Yearbook Photos during the Democratic Primary campaign?
Why was Perriello's GOTV operation in the Democratic Primary poor?
If Perriello-D won the Democratic Nomination, He would have won in the November General Election and Northam would have been old news.
