1. Ralph Northam makes some common sense statements about non-viable births, and the right wing noise machine spins it into a pathetic story about late term abortion, and infanticide. (Personally, I think he can weather that storm, given that the pro-life movement is constantly dialed up to a +11 on a scale of 1 to 10 against Democrats anyway. Regardless of their stance on abortion. If it were just that...I'd say fuck 'em, buckle down, and weather the storm out.)2. Add to that a 35 year old photo of Northam in a revolting blackface/KKK yearbook picture that's meant to be 'funny,' and you've got a decision to make.
A. Do we ride the storm out, hypocritically telling people to ignore something that we'd clearly call a Republican out on, and practice 'whataboutism?' (Whatabout pussygrabber, whatabout date rapist Kavanaugh, whatabout the stupid kid in the MAGA hat and the pictures from HIS yearbook?) Or do we...
B. Put maximum pressure on Northam (BEHIND THE SCENES) to resign now, get it over with, and move Justin Fairfax into the job?
I wouldn't recommend option C. Put maximum pressure on Northam to resign IN PUBLIC. Appeal to him to resign behind the scenes, and if he stupbornly refuses, stand by him and look hypocritical. The second scenario is bad, but it's not as bad as another, Franken-style public food fight.
Just laying the facts out there as I see them. Am I wrong about this?

(6,044 posts)4. Yes you are wrong. He is the governor of a sovereign state.
The people of that state decide. If you live there, you participation the a decision.
The question is: is this governor breaking the law or working against equality?
If not, why you want to pressure him to resign?
Possibly you would better pressure a governor who is breaking the law or working against equality

Despite breaking the law. Maybe it's Congressional collegiately that prevents presidential candidates Booker, Castro and Harris for calling for him to resign?
