One of the many worst things about trump

I was “hounded” from the lounge. Too depressing. So here we are in GD.

There was an article the other day noting that this regime has removed the US from UNESCO, and I got to thinking.

What trump and his band of crooks is doing to the US is appalling. No question. And it will take decades to undo the damage, and that assumes the Democrats gain the WH and Senate in 2020 and stay there for decades.

But it also dawned on me that he and his fellow conmen literally suck the literal joy out of everything.

They don't care about anything or anyone other than themselves. Immigrants, of course, and asylum seekers. And the homeless and less fortunate among us. They take no joy from things that so-called ordinary Americans take joy from. People who help those less fortunate. People in other countries who do the same. People who in the worst of environments try to do the best for their families. People, often volunteers, who look after wildlife in Africa and Asia. They express no sympathy for those displaced by war or drought or flooding, whether due to climate change or not. Every utterance, from the buffoon's daily tweets to the comments of those like Wilbur Ross during the shutdown, is contemptuous of all of us.

I know this is depressing, but when you're confronting this nonsense every single fucking day for more than 2 years now, you can't help but be astounded by this. This is where the Obamas were far more than a breath of fresh air. They found joy everywhere they went and in everyone who visited them at the WH. And that joy was infectious.

But the anger, hate, fear, and more that emanate from the WH and the extreme right (politically and religiously) is just so fucking draining.

Yes, I know, as individuals we do what we can and in some cases what we feel we must to ensure that this attitude doesn't permeate our own daily lives. But, damn, when you wake up every day with the question, what fresh new hell are we going to face today, it certainly is a challenge.

BTW, This could go in GD or mental health, butt I thought the lounge would be as good as anywhere

"Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them... Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself – soulless and evil. You’ll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life." - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

- the striking lack of joy among those supporters at his rallies. The dominant emotion of his supporters is anger and hatred
.
The absence of any sense of humor in Trump is one of his most scary character flaws. His lack of humor betrays his deep insecurity. (I never really trust any leader who doesn't have a sense of humor, especially about him/herself. Come to think of it, Putin doesn't have any obvious sense of humor, either).

One of the things I miss most about Obama is his sense of humor.
I miss joy and humor in today's politics . Yes, of course, there's little to be joyful about these days- even the "funny" moments in this regime's sordid history are not truly funny. Satirists are doing a fantastic and essential job as truth-tellers. But funny? The transgressions of this regime are too sordid and dangerous to be actually funny. The most I can muster these days is a wry eye-roll.

I want the Democratic nominee to be someone with a real sense of humor, especially about him/herself; to repeat myself, that sense of humor is to me and sign of mental balance in the leader in question and also (to quote someone whose name I've long forgotten) a sign that "truth is held in honor and in love." And I also long for our nominee to help us bring about change to be joyful about.

sigh.
