Hey Coloradans, tell us about this guy please

(Yeah I know it's early there)
Mike Johnston (@MikeJohnstonCO) Tweeted:
I’m Mike Johnston. I’m a former teacher, principal, Obama advisor, and State Senator.

And, today, I’m announcing my Democratic campaign to defeat Republican Senator Cory Gardner.

Some of his views makes sense, but some of them doesn't excite Coloradans.

But, he does have the political acumen to run for Senate, although he's aiming a bit high. He would be better off serving as a U.S. Rep for a bit to get some name recognization around the state. But an all around good guy, just didn't win over Polis.

Polis won his primary 44%, with Cary Kennedy (another name that keeps popping up from time to time) at 24% with Johnston at 23%

It will be hard for him to "catch fire" in a statewide election and especially against the likes of Perlmutter or Hickenlooper if either choose to run (Perlmutter is all be certain to run). Then there is Carey Kennedy and Colorado House Speaker Crisanta Duran. The former has held statewide office and the latter senior leadership in the party. Johnston got support on his education views, but I don't see that putting him over the top.

I'm sure he's thinking about entering this race. He's liberal and was about to run for governor but dropped out when Polis entered. He would have a great chance of defeating Gardner.

He's one of those legislators who seems to stay in the background and rarely raises his voice on issues. But when he found his voice it was to pipe up with an open throat against Pelosi. That was beyond disappointing to me. If he's our best bet then Colorado is in trouble.
