If no one self-identifying as a "Republican" mounts a primary challenge to Trump in 2020,

that will simply confirm what many already suspect: the Republican party no longer exists.

If Trump is unopposed by a legitimate primary opponent in 2019, he will run in the 2020 general election as a Trumplican.

Some Republicans object to his style but hardly quibble with his substance. Trump remains incredibly popular among Republicans and that's just one of several reasons why he may not face a primary challenge. Just look at how outraged people are at Howard Schultz. Imagine the wrath that John Kasich would face.

50 years of increasingly cruel and unhinged rhetoric and policy is what made Trump possible.

This is Republicanism. Calling it Trumpism or Trumplicanism doesn't serve us well. This is who Republicans are and have been for decades. Make them own it.

continue to vote for the Republican party as long as they are allowed to pretend there is one.
