"SNIP....

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that a Democratic bill that would make Election Day a federal holiday is a “power grab,” the Washington Post reports.

McConnell said Democrats “want taxpayers on the hook for generous new benefits for federal bureaucrats and government employees,” including making Election Day a “new paid holiday for government workers.”

“The far-reaching legislation would also prohibit the purging of voter rolls, require presidential and vice-presidential candidates to release their tax returns, compel states to adopt independent redistricting commissions and create a matching system for small-dollar donations to congressional campaigns, among other changes.”

Republicans can't win without cheating. This sounds like a no brainier to me, even though Mitch won't put it on the floor to vote on it, and trump would never sign it. Democrats need to keep on putting out bills like this and let Mitch shoot them down. He will have a lot of explaining to do when he runs in 2020.

and discovered the government is moving forward without him.

What a novel idea that working people be given the time to vote.

Perhaps McTurtle will continue to regain consciousness and realize that 70% of Americans do not want "the wall."

Nor do we want another tRump/McTurtle shut-down.

just accusing dems of doing precisely what he's perfected: "playing politics".

Kentucky, please dump this cancer in 2020.

people would start taking a vacation day on Monday and turning it into a 4 day weekend. people would be traveling. ultimately i think it could suppress turnout in some situations.

Early voting pretty much makes the holiday concept unnecessary anyway.

AS if the man isn't corrupt as fuck already.

And I hate the image of a turtle choking on a straw, but I'd pay to see this one.

a Merrick Garland power grab? And before McTurtle starts mocking Federal employees getting another paid holiday, maybe we should talk about the lost income/revenue from the recent shutdown or the the add-to national debt from the infamous tax deform bill, one of the few things passed by the last Congress.

But then, I must agree that prohibiting the purge of voter rolls, requiring tax records from presidential/vp candidates, reforming redistricting regulations and tamping down questionable campaign funding would indeed reduce McTurtle's chances of leading the Senate beyond the next cycle. Because when Americans are allowed to actually vote and candidates are properly vetted, when ridiculous gerrymandering is the exception rather than the rule and dark money no longer flows through the body politic, Republicans will be washed out to sea. McTurtle and his cronies know this; it's why he and his people have worked so assiduously to maintain a corrupted system.

McTurtle has a point. Not a good point but a point nonetheless. If the GOP its no longer able to cut corners, tinker with voting rolls and districting and/or pay people off, they will lose the very seats they covet. The hard truth? Republican policy ideas stink and the American public just isn't into them.

Btw, could someone wipe that arrogant smirk off the man's face? Hummmm. Maybe Mueller can do that in time.
