Progressive Democrats are wasting no time in cleaning house in this case the House of Representatives of members of their own party some think are too conservative or don't represent the party well.
The Hill reports that among them is Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts. Congressman Moulton was once a rising star, when he was elected in 2014. But the 40-year old former Marine Corps decorated officer angered many with his multi-year war against then-former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Now that she has regained the gavel and won several major battles in a few short weeks against President Trump, Moulton is persona non grata to many in the Democratic Party.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii is also in trouble. Her 2017 meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad raised eyebrows and drew the ire of Democrats and Republicans alike. More recently, her previous anti-LGBTQ activism has drawn anger and fire. And just this week news that her just-launched campaign for president is already disintegrating leaves her ripe for attack.
Conservative Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar of Texas also makes The Hill's report. Cuellar has voted for anti-abortion legislation, voted to constitutionally define marriage as between one man and one woman only, and even campaigned for a Republican.

(10,252 posts)The last time I checked, primaries are where we take our disagreements to let the voters decide.

(58,721 posts)while I don't support the kind of purge the Repubs did to themselves, I think Dem candidates should support Democratic policies and stances on issues. So, if we have DINOs perhaps a primary challenge is warranted.

(7,142 posts)This is getting old. I don't condone Tulsi's anti-LGBTQ positions but she may just be right about Syria.
Saddam was a butcher too just like Assad but it was a big mistake to invade Iraq, correct?
Removing Assad from power is all about gas and oil pipelines. Assad didn't gas his own people, IMO. I may get myself in trouble if I say who I feel was the culprit. One of the parties was Saudi Arabia.
If Tulsi should by chance become our nominee, Republicans can cut and paste this article.

(58,785 posts)of representatives democratically elected by THEIR CONSTITUENTS? I won't be holding my breath for this next of the over-ambitious planned purges of the Democratic Party to take place, but their undemocratic ideology should be opposed anyway.
I wouldn't vote for the targeted reps, but then I can't because I don't live in their districts. We need to encourage and protect the democratic process in local districts, uncorrupted by ruthless manipulators come in from outside to upset the choices local voters would have made.
Btw, we should all remember that these are the sort of people who supported overthrowing the majority vote in the last Democratic primary if the majority (us!!!) didn't choose their candidate. Imo, stealing elections, legally or illegally, is every bit as wrong when far left groups try it as it is when Republicans do. But they disagree.
