Are You Nuts? Just think about the millions upon millions of of us and our families who will not have to pay for medical expenses... My wife and in our early 60' who fortunately never had a serious illness... were paying close to to 25,000 dollars a year until we we reached Medicare .. First thing we did after a year of paying off most of our bills...was to go out and purchase a new refrigerator and and Washer/Dryer...Then we purchased a new couch, and stocked our cub boards with dry food goods... Oh, I forgot... I also bought myself some inexpensive exercise machines...
So this brings me to my point.. Medicare for all.. Yes it is expensive...but just think...Of how our economy will be leaping horizontally... How Huge Corporations will now become much more profitable by billions of dollars, by not having to buy huge Insurance policies for it's employees.. with eyes on opening more factories..
Yep taxes will rise exponentially, but in the long run the naysayers of Medicare for all are just fucking lying about everything.. as they usually do.
Here's a piece which gets to the basics.

(7,813 posts)We should have Medicaid for all.
An Australian once described their system to me:
1. All people have good basic healthcare. It takes care of all needs.
2. If the basic system isn't good enough, if you want a private or semi-private hospital room, want access to newer and more expensive prescriptions, you can buy supplemental insurance that would cover them.
Nobody is left out and the rich get expensive services that they pay extra for. There! Everybody is happy.

(4,171 posts)It is understood that starting out will be a little expensive. We have a lot of underserved people who need a lot of care and rehab of one kind or the other. The best part will be for everyone who can have health problems caught early and will require less long term, expensive care. We will have a healthier population, that is a very good goal.

(68,689 posts)There are also premiums. As for taxes, there will be push back, count on it. A public option and/or lowering the age of Medicare to say 50 or 55 makes sense. It will lead to universal coverage. Only a couple of nations have socialized medicine. We could easily end up with Germany's sort of insurance by improving the ACA.
