In poker, it's called "chasing bets." A player suffers a bad beat and figures that the poker gods owe him one. So he starts betting on hands he should fold because he wants to get revenge on the player who took so many of his chips. If the other player is any good, he will recognize the situation, and know that all he has to do is wait for a good hand, and he can bust his adversary out of the game.
