I'm starting to think a dementia defense is Chumpy's best option.

Maybe that's why he keeps tweeting all these stupid statements. He and his sycophants are cleverly preparing his get out of jail free card, or he really is demented.

sitting in the White House... he is demented (one definition: driven to behave irrationally due to anger, distress, or excitement) and I think there is a good chance he has dementia... my father suffered from it and I see the signs

and this is how I think it could go down:

Trump resigns due to an "undisclosed medical condition".
Either he or Pence classify it as "top secret" for national security.
This allows him to walk away "blameless" in his mind and those of his followers.
He will then use the "classified, undisclosed medical condition" as the argument as to why he can't be charged(the argument will be that classified information would have to be revealed to charge him).
This will be fought in various courts for years, and given his age and health, will likely never be resolved before he passes.

At some point soon, this will be his only legitimate legal option given federal and state charges are most likely pending.

means that he is fully aware of what he is doing and thus, should be held accountable for the crimes done against fellow Americans, e.g., tainting the election process, brides, lies told before being president, lies told even now, etc., all crimes done in his name and favor. He's done nothing to protect the American people and has failed in his constitutionally mandated duties as a so called president. He deserves a defense but not dementia.

but I seriously doubt he has dementia. He is a dangerous narcissist, a bully, a man who is poorly educated and totally uncurious about almost everything. He has absolutely no compassion for anyone else. Meanwhile, he thinks he is always the smartest person in the room, and the only time that would be the case is if he's alone in the room.

And I don't think there's any long game to anything he tweets. He simply puts out whatever is on his mind at that moment, which can be quite different five minutes later. His idea of negotiating is that he get his own way and the other side gets nothing. Unfortunately for him, he's now up against Democratic leadership that is refusing to give in to his tantrums. Which has never happened before.

Added: Plus, claiming dementia makes him not responsible for what he's done, and he knows well enough what he's doing. He just doesn't care at all about anyone else.

Then issues a pardon because prosecuting a dementia patient is not the "Christian" thing to do.

Of course, Trump will be complicit with all of it.

Federal prosecutors have a deep well of experience to draw upon when it comes to prosecuting con-artists who try to feign ignorance, incapacity, or that they truly believed their own BS.
