How Nancy went from San Francisco housewife to the most powerful woman in politics

What an inspiration she is.

Despite first running for office at age 47, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has managed to become the most powerful woman in Washington.

It's been a long road, but with impressive fundraising skills and a political sixth sense, Pelosi has managed to break gender barriers and break her way into the notorious old boys' club on Capitol Hill.

Here's how Pelosi became the most powerful female politician in US history.

Unlike most men, Pelosi didn't have the luxury or opportunity to jump into politics right out of college. So she raised her family, got involved in politics at the local level, worked from the ground up and then, once her kids were raised, she ran for Congress - at 47.

And then, largely because she's a woman, she couldn't expect to jump straight to the top - she had to work her way up, build up her experience and credentials so that she would be take seriously - that takes time.

Women and minorities often get placed in that trap. We're constantly told that we don't have enough experience or seniority - while we watch white men with much less experience and seniority move ahead of us without a second thought. But when we do finally build up lots of experience and longevity, we're told we're too old, have been around too long, and are two establishment.

That's exactly what Nancy Pelosi ran into. But she persisted. And now she's kicking ass like nobody's business.

to watch Nancy Pelosi being the most powerful person to stand up to DT, while all the "normal" members of his party are just reduced to spineless, brainless jellyfish.

I hope the Democratic naysayers who insisted we needed "fresh blood" have learned a lesson. What we needed was that "San Francisco liberal" -- the most reviled, most demonized, most feared, most powerful Nancy Pelosi
