Im getting notes from people who are saying theyre making mistakes that they hadnt made in the 10, 15, 20 years of service that theyve been an air traffic controller. Theyre making them because theyre stressed out, because they dont know when this is going to end and theyre distracted, Trish Gilbert, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, said Thursday on PBS NewsHour.
We cannot have that in our system. Its unsafe and we need to open the government, get them paid I think we are less safe than we were a month ago.
Funding for the Federal Aviation Administration lapsed on Dec. 22 and the partial government shutdown began, resulting in employees being furloughed or required to work without pay.

It's not the first time Republicans have screwed the Air Traffic Controllers. Of course, when Reagan wrongly fired them, wasn't it because they were so essential? Now they're not?

They'd only need to do it at one major airport to send the message.
