Why doesn't the orange one just give in?

Open the government without his wall. Get his SOTU and then lie about how the democrats are letting "illegals" pour in. That seems to be his shtick. I do realize he hates "losing" though. Loser. Unless it is because he likes the government shutdown... hmmm

The bullying has worked extremely well up to now, and he's simply not used to anyone telling him no.

Plus, he's completely indifferent to what the shutdown is doing to thousands of ordinary people.

Maybe everyone who is still working without pay should all call in sick on the same day. And the next day. And the following day.

And it would be somewhat difficult to organize them all. Although if even 30% called in sick one particular day it would tend to shut down everything.

I keep on hoping that ALPA, the AirLine Pilots Association, will decide that it's really not safe to fly and will refuse to fly.

Back in the 1970s, when Canadian air traffic controllers in Quebec wanted to be able to speak French to local pilots, American (and possibly others, I don't recall the details) pilots understood that this was A Very Bad Idea and refused to fly into Quebec. It took maybe three days for the controllers to go back to English for All.

This clearly isn't a language issue, but a safety issue. If security checks (as bullshit as they are, and since I'm a former airline ticket agent who started work just over 50 years ago at DCA, well before any sort of security and understand all too well what theater the current security is) aren't being performed as mandated, if the ATC people are being even more over worked than usual, if the pilots decide that it's not safe to fly, we can hope they'll simply refuse to fly. Which might possibly bring this stupid shut down to an end. Although I wouldn't count on it.

If a face-saving "out" was still available in this shutdown mess, he would use it. But there isn't one. He clearly said he won't sign a blll that lacks 5.7B for a wall. And he's dug in. I wouldn't be surprised if this shutdown lasts for months. It could even be the impetus that forces the GOP to agree to impeachment proceedings.

Yes, he likes the shutdown, as do most republicans.
