No one event will ever be enough; Newtown wasn't, Pulse wasn't, Las Vegas wasn't. The never-ending drumbeat of death has made us numb to it.

(4,484 posts)Even more awful is how passe this has become. It's barely getting any coverage. It's like we just accept it.
There is this sickness in America. This weird water cycle of violence that wafts through the doors of every gun shop, fogs up the American dream and then evaporates into the sky making it rain thoughts and prayers, and nobody cares, and it just starts all over again.
I'm shopping a book on the topic at the moment, and I did a lot of research while writing it. I noticed this trend of people not really wanting to UNDERSTAND the epidemic. We wouldn't act this way about cancer or HIV. Why do we act this way about guns?
Last year, six times as many Americans died from gun violence than died from HIV. More than the Korean War. In line with Vietnam and car crashes. And you know what? This is a lot like watching a slow-moving car crash. Our country is killing itself and all people can do is stop, stare, and gawk.
