The KGOP and racism, inextricably bound

First please cut me some slack. I am not perfect and I am aware of my flaws. I own my own racism and work to overcome it. Part of that work is that I care, and because I care I am a bit vulnerable. The same applies to sexism and homophobia.

I am here, mostly among friends, so I post this at some risk in part so I may learn and.evolve. Another part is to express my disgust with the KGOP. The inspiration for this post is an old friend who is not very bright and who is, you guessed it, a right wing cultist.

He has no idea that he is racist yet he is a birther and four square in favor of Confederate general statues. He posted a video of a black lady spouting the "conservative" claims against Democrats, with a caption that she "gets it," adding a suggestion to his son to date her. I assume that was supposed to indicate that he was, after all, not racist?

I post all kinds of things against racism, and he accuses me of "finding racism everywhere." Well, yes but I am correct. I do find racism everywhere and especially in him. I have a hard time rationalizing a friendship with him but really and truly his heart is in the right place. It's his head that is up his ass.

Today he posts something about how fractured we are.and how we all have to glue it back together. The vagueness of this is typical. He takes no responsibility. Nor does he begin to comprehend the notion that black people are discriminated against and he needs to listen to them and understand them instead of demanding that they accept his ideological bullshit about race. He doesn't understand that racism is at the core of his ideology. His ignorance is not an excuse, but rather my attempt to understand the real nature of what "conservatism" really is.

Yes there are other aspects. Obviously "conservatism" is in part a plot by oligarchs. Lewis Powell spelled it all out.

Where am I going? My friend is a reprobate. He will never be redeemed. He will be crushed like a bug and put back into his place. He will feel oppressed, but that's his problem. My problem is that he is still my friend.

And we all have the same problem.
