Federal workers protest at Senate office building

Federal workers gathered Wednesday at the Hart Senate Office Building to protest the ongoing government shutdown, which has left hundreds of thousands of them without pay.

The workers held 33 minutes of silent protest, or one minute for every day the shutdown has lasted.

Protesters shook their fists during the protest and chanted, "No more food banks. We need paychecks."

They also held paper plates with messages written on them, such as "open the government" and "federal workers are going hungry." The plates were reportedly meant to symbolize that some workers can't feed their families without pay.

Among the organizers of the union were the American Federation of Government Employees, a federal employee union, and the AFL-CIO, a federation of unions.

Following the silent protest, AFGE National President J. David Cox and other union leaders marched to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) office.

That's the only thing that will break this shutdown. And Speaker Pelosi needs to keep Trumpy out of the House. No SOTU for you, mister.

J. David Cox, Sr. said they've been protesting across the country every day. I've tried to check broadcast tv news each evening since the trumpshutdown started, and have not seen that reported.

And show trump how bad a job he's doing, and how much he's hated when he's going there.

Call the directory in DC (202)224-3121
Today is National Call Day by Indivisible.
RESISTANCE is PATRIOTIC!

First, call your two Senators and tell them to reject Trump’s extreme anti-immigrant bill and instead open up the government now! There will be two votes in the Senate this week, one on Trump’s anti-immigrant bill and one on a clean continuing resolution that would fund the government through Feb. 8. We need to make sure that the Senate doesn’t pay Trump’s ransom. Tell them to:

Vote NO on Trump's racist, anti-immigrant bill.
Vote YES on a clean CR.
Then, check in with your House Representative to make sure they know you oppose Trump’s wall ransom. The House has done its job by passing funding bills and sending them over to the Senate, where McConnell has refused (until now) take any of them up. But we’re hearing House offices are getting calls from conservative groups who want Trump’s wall.

Call your House Representative and tell him/her you don’t want your taxpayer dollars going to fund Trump’s wall.
