The partial government shutdown is hampering the FBIs ability to investigate and prosecute cyber criminals and to combat digital national security threats, FBI agents say.
With the shutdown now in its second month, the vast majority of FBI agents are still on the job and working without pay. But many of the resources they need for cyber investigations are missing in action, the agents said including money to pay for wiretaps, subpoenas and other tools that form the bedrock of most digital investigations.

A longer shutdown could result in an even lengthier recovery time and therefore greater exposure to threats at all levels of government, said Ferrante, who now leads the cybersecurity practice at FTI Consulting.
That slowdown could be particularly damaging because the FBI is trying to meet an ambitious goal of deterring, detecting, disrupting, and dismantling, 8,400 computer crimes during the 2019 fiscal year.

In the longer term, the shutdown could be a devastating blow to workforce morale[/b ]- Seattle Times

(7,725 posts)Only time he speaks up is to clarify that evidence against the president is inaccurate? When the country is a wasteland....why bother? Plus, lets let 'IT' pack the courts so none of it means a GD thing twice over, and the soviets have us by the throat through our computers. We need a progress report...like yesterday Bob. Enough of all of US waiting on your phalanx of prosecutors. For the love of God man.
Have'nt even started on fixing the voting machines cyber issues. Let's wait a few more months??

(758 posts)need to achieve "accomplishment" - his need to destroy power to get more power. Destroying historic structures of government makes him feel equal to other, real leaders that actually solved problems. McConnell (and now the Republicans) understand these instincts.
