"Mexico will pay for it"
This is one of two points that stands out to me with the shutdown.
1) "Mexico will pay for it" - repeated ad nauseum for the last few years. WP has a good montage here for background if you can stomach it:
and
2) "I am proud to shutdown the government for border security." Make that guy own it. More video here if you can also stomach it (so disrespectful to Nancy & Chuck). ?t=108
