I remember chuckling to myself on the way to the base one morning, when the radio guy told people that they had better bundle up because it was a little nippy out there. It was September, and the temp that morning was a refreshing (to me) 60 degrees.
My favorite, of all the places I have lived, is Denver. Ive lived in 9 different states, and had 16 different addresses over my 67 years.

trump is already friends with at least two despots who apparently have ways of dealing with those they consider to be troublesome individuals. Putin, for one, and also that nice young prince in Saudi Arabia come to mind.
Color me DEEPLY suspicious. DEEPLY.

(32,703 posts)It was all done in a matter of hours. But Trump got her flight time and leaked it in a tweet last night. If Putin (or someone else) knows what time her plane comes into Afghanistan, what's to stop him from shooting down her plane?

(12,590 posts)This has to do with the Speaker being second in the line of succession.
Given that Donny Two Scoops didn't have a problem with his lapdog Lindsay Graham flying to Turkey, or the FLOTUS using military aircraft to fly to Mar-A-Lago, it's clear that by denying Pelosi her legally required right to use a military aircraft to leave the country, Trump has taken one more government worker hostage.

Q: Madam Speaker, could you just talk about what has transpired over the last 15-16 hours?
Speaker Pelosi. It transpired over since 2 p.m. yesterday. Our Members who were on the bus I was ready to join them for a 2:15 wheels up from here to Andrews Air Force Base to visit our troops, pay our respects; to thank them for their service, their sacrifice and their dedication; to get a measure of the leadership of Afghanistan, strength of their military, the morale of their people.
Its about governance, its about security, its about the civilian affairs in the country as we make our oversight decisions about our policy, the engagement that we have in Afghanistan. The Members were on the bus already, I was about to join them and the President then canceled the trip. It was kind of a funny letter saying seven days, going to Egypt somebody didnt tell him it was a quick weekend trip, but nonetheless, that served his purpose.
Forgetting him for a moment, not only that, but we had the prerogative to travel commercially and we made plans to do that until the Administration leaked we were traveling commercially and that endangers us. We werent going to go, because we had a report from Afghanistan that the President outing our trip had made the scene on the ground much more dangerous, because its just a signal to the bad actors that were coming.
You never give advance notice of going into a battle area. You just never do. Perhaps the Presidents inexperience, didnt have him understand that protocol. The people around him, though, should have known that. Thats very dangerous.
And then so were saying, well, its not only been our safety, thats one thing, but the more important thing is the people who we would be meeting with, our civilians there, our own troops, first and foremost again, they take so many risks for us. We didnt want to heighten the risk for them.
So then we can go commercially, so we say, lets review this in light of the State Departments report that the Presidents statement has heightened the danger on the ground. As were making that decision, all of us together, then the State Department doubles down and says we dont think you should come because the Presidents statement has made it dangerous.
The fact that they would leak that we were flying commercial is a danger not only to us but to other people flying commercially. Its very irresponsible on the part of the President.
Well go again. Well go another time. This would have been my ninth trip. One of my colleagues, it was his fifteenth trip, but weve been many times to see what the needs are of our men and women in uniform, honor those needs and thank those troops.
Q: How do you know the leak came from the White House? The White House has denied the leak came from them.
Speaker Pelosi. I rest my case.

(81,414 posts)And donald, youre dont dealing with one of your simpering sycophants here. Speaker Pelosi is a VERY seasoned veteran of this game, including understanding the Speakership. That, too, isnt her first rodeo either.
PLUS, and I think this is key, shes a mom and a grandma. Having raised FIVE kids, shes dealt with dozens of unruly, spoiled, undisciplined, and overly-coddled children. That dynamic has undoubtedly sharpened her instincts about human behavior and the shrewd and gentle-but-firm management thereof. As a mom myself, I totally get this. ANY mom would.
I suspect thats also how shes able to herd cats so effectively in the House of Reps.
On edit - CNN just aired a clip of her in that interview - finishing with I dont think the pResident would be that petty, do you? And I thought - MAN, that velvet glove has a hand grenade in it.

Pelosis spokesman, Drew Hammill, in a series of tweets, wrote that the congressional delegations trip to Afghanistan included a required stop in Brussels for pilot rest.
In Brussels, the delegation was scheduled to meet with top NATO commanders, U.S. military leaders and key allies to affirm the United States ironclad commitment to the NATO alliance, Hammill wrote.
He added that the weekend trip to Afghanistan did not include a stop in Egypt, as Trump had suggested in his letter.

I would go so far as to say that this is something Congressional leaders obviously get something out of that they don't get any other way. First-hand contact with military leaders, for example. The information isn't filtered. The fact that some of them have done it 9-15 times says something right there.
