Storm coming. Well, a couple of them.

This thread is about the snow storm about to hit us here in the northeast. Making sure we are as ready as we can be. I am off to buy water, sterno , batteries, tarps for some items on our front porch. Then I am going to make chili, chicken soup, bread and cornbread. I have 2 fondue pots, one will be used to reheat the extra coffee I will brew tomorrow, one will be to heat the chili and corn bread. Oh, also need to buy those handwarmer packets so I can put them in kitty bed to keep 20 year old Trouble warm for the duration. She hates to be cold.

We don’t have a wood stove or a generator so if we do lose power I hope it isn’t for long as the temperature is going to plummet. The longest we have ever been without power was 3 days. It was during a bitter cold February and it was wretched. Good luck everyone! And if there is something I should do to prepare that I have forgotten please tell me!

Edited to correct stereo to sterno and to say that the other storm is the one pummeling the White House!

Wanted to mention that if you have a bathtub, you should fill it with water for flushes. Once the power goes out, open all of your faucets and let the water in the lines drain out into pots, etc. This will help prevent your pipes from freezing.

We were out for seven straight days last year due to all of the downed trees and power lines. Luckily we do have a wood stove and a gene.

Good luck and stay warm.

Probably no cable.... the lines are all above ground and I am in the woods. Going to the library today though for some dvd's. I can run the DVD player for a couple of hours off my gene... so yay!

I'm schlepping in wood right now and stacking it on the hearth. Getting too old for this shite. LOL and I mean ALL this shite.

I will be laying in a bunch of them. Lots of things you can do to them without cooking. As a vegetarian...I appreciate them as satisfying, ready to hand food in an emergency.

We aren't expected to get that much (last time I saw, the prediction was under 6 inches).

What I hate are the bitter temperatures that are coming.

Not really expecting too much, if any, snow here is Lexington, KY, but temps are supposed to dip to 9 degrees. Brrrrrr.

Stay safe & warm, everybody.

Supposedly with more to come. I have to run into DC in half an hour, hope the Metro is running.

Then down to Atlanta and over to the Rheinland again on Monday, arrive home Tuesday morning. I have only a zillion (conservatively speaking, no pun intended) things to do once I get back to Europe, so I can do without a bunch of delays along the way.

I think I've got everything we'll need for the duration. Fortunately, we've got a generator. I consider it the best purchase we've made in the history of our 45 year long marriage. We've always lived in places where the power goes out frequently and our current house is no different. Let's hope it doesn't happen, redwitch. It's going to get brutally cold on Monday. You should think about getting a gas stove or something. At least then you could hunker down in the kitchen when the power goes out and it's cold.

Some neighbors don't have resources. We have some. And the crock pots (3) hold a lot of warm. Plus the power (which goes out a lot) has our home backup. That's the only suggestion - a coleman stove.

Got extra blankets? Those who chose to walk on may need one or two. Trouble will be fine with the handwarmers (kitty mama here who knows) and keep yourself safe, too! I tend to freeze toes in these circumstances, but I let himself wear my boots, so it's on me!

You're doing a wonderful thing, redwitch. Don't forget that wonderful things have good karma coming right at you.
