In a series of tweets on Friday morning, Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman accused “Trump loyalists” of knowing deep down in their hearts that the president committed treason, but they don’t care because he appeals to their racist instincts.

Taking the measure of the national zeitgeist, the popular New York Times columnist said the steady drumbeat of revelations about the Trump administration — including a bombshell report that claims the president may have suborned perjury — should leave no doubt that the president’s relationship with Russian president Vladimir Putin is treasonous.

But, Krugman asserted, Trump’s biggest fans don’t care.

Krugman then tied Trump’s die-hard supporters to conservatives who have ignored the racism of Rep. Steve King (R-IA) for so long — then acted shocked when the truth came out.

The "base," those who have now happily accepted the moniker "Deplorables," knew that this was so in 2016 and they are sticking with their decision. They are authoritarians, frightened racists who need a Big Brother-type to reassure them during this time of great turmoil, when their very existence, their identity as the apex of society, appears to be threatened by inevitable tides of demographic changes.

The course of our future largely depends on how the masses, the non-voters, react to being subjected to unbridled fascism. Unfortunately, almost everyone seems willing to put up with whatever horrible shit, as long as it doesn't involve them personally.

It does feel like things are coming to a head. If this shutdown situation goes on much longer, and/or if we have corroborating evidence of this latest, obviously impeachable offense...well, I don't know, maybe enough of the apathetic herd will wake the fuck up and decide enough is enough, but probably not until after the superbowl, and you know, not if it inconveniences them too much to bother. I don't really see things suddenly becoming better; I think we're in for a long fight, and I think more bad shit is going to happen soon that will eclipse even the end of the U.S.; people in general don't comprehend what's almost certainly coming with respect to climate change.

For seven decades, McCarthyite Republicans called liberals and Democrats "Commie Symps," Communist sympathizers and "fellow travelers." Now most of the Republican party are traitors, in Putin's pocket.

Ever since Nixon's Southern Strategy (which should more accurately be called his Racist Strategy), the Republican party has been a welcoming haven for the Klan and Klan sympathizers (KlanSymps). Likewise for Nazi sympathizers (NaziSymps).

Even if Jeff Sessions doesn't have a Klan robe in his closet, he wears one constantly in his heart. Dolt45 thinks the Klan and Nazis are "fine people" because he's a KlanSymp and a NaziSymp. They've all supported blatant racist Steve King forever because they're all KlanSymps and fellow travelers, and they depend completely on Klan, KlanSymp, and fellow travelers' votes to win elections.
