Democratic group to launch ads targeting six GOP senators over shutdown

By Sean Sullivan January 17 at 3:48 PM

A Democratic group plans to launch a television advertising campaign criticizing six Republican senators for the partial government shutdown, escalating the political battle as the standoff reached its 27th day.

Majority Forward, a Democratic nonprofit group aligned with Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), has produced 30-second ads taking Republican senators facing potentially competitive reelection campaigns to task over the lapse in government services.

The ads target Sens. Martha McSally (Ariz.), Cory Gardner (Colo.), David Perdue (Ga.), Joni Ernst (Iowa), Susan Collins (Maine) and Thom Tillis (N.C.), the organization told The Washington Post.

As ominous music plays, a narrator points out that this is “the longest government shutdown in history,” and warns of the impact on food safety inspections and air travel security.

One can make an argument for removing Cuellar since he votes with Trump at least 69% of the time.

He's way out of touch.

13. Cuellar failed to back a democrat over a republican in a US House race in Texas.

He is a longtime bluedog. I see people routinely pan Gore about his 2000 VP pick, well Cuellar is about the same as the VP pick. I am no Justice Democrat by a longshit, but I too want him primaried, preferably by a left-center democrat who can then have a chance of holding the seat.

unless the ads are being run as public-service announcements, I think the money would be better spent helping unpaid government employees.

They should be focusing on one fucknut: Mitchell "FucknuTurtle" McConnell.

He's the one blocking the legislation needed to reopen the government.

We need to pick up these seats in 2020. I blame the gop senators as much as Mcconnell and trump.

Spending money against Mcconnell doesn’t help as much. He can’t be shamed and Kentucky is hard to win in 2020. He won by 15% in 2014.
