As government shutdown drags on, where is Senator McConnell?

Showing no interest in defying his president and Trump’s demand that triggered the shutdown for funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall opposed by Democrats, McConnell has kept a low profile. This posture, allies and opponents said, is about McConnell protecting himself, vulnerable Republicans and their control of the Senate ahead of the 2020 elections.

At the core of McConnell’s quiet loyalty to Trump, despite past friction between them, is a calculation that Trump’s popularity with Republican voters makes standing by him, in the long run, politically wiser than responding to short-term worries about the shutdown, aides and experts said. - PoliticusUSA

Therefore the solution to McConnell and the Trump/Pence #Russiagate problem is to go directly at tRump's base. Get them to cower and it's all over.

4. A different tack than going after trump base [which is important'], is a 'con pol indictment!

The 'cons, especially in the Senate are worried about base primaries. Indictment/prison are a bigger worry. A convincing, talking indictment - making a beyond a reasonable doubt case would be big. Create a fear among 'con Senators, who have been holding the trump line, of who prosecutors are talking to, who is making a deal, and who will get off easy. That could break the 'con wall of silence support for trump. Preferably, not Mueller, for strategic reasons. One of the state AG's.

There are all sorts of serious implications going several which ways here, but the indictment proposition is an interesting one. I haven't
seen it mentioned anywhere.

As a leader, he should be out front, leading efforts to resolve differences between the so called president's stupid demands for a wall and more realistic demands. He isn't. WHY isn't he doing his job?
