The media should stop ignoring Mitch McConnell

Who holds the key to opening our government?

Is it Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats?

Is it Mitch McConnell and the Republicans?

Or is it Donald J Trump?

In my opinion, it makes no difference what Pelosi and the Democrats might offer, they cannot guarantee that it will open our government. No matter what, it could be rejected.

But Donald Trump holds the master key and Mitch McConnell has a copy,

If Trump tells McConnell to open the government in the next hour, McConnell would rush to do what he is ordered to do by his President.

But, McConnell has a key, also. He could open the government on his own. All he would need to do is bring up the last House bill and pass it. If it got more than 67 votes on passage, it is unlikely that The trump would veto it? If he did veto it, McConnell could request that it be over-ridden.

So, the only two people holding the keys to opening our government are Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell.

It is a disservice by the media to portray the government shutdown as a battle between Trump and Pelosi. The Democrats do not have a key to open our government. Mitch McConnell is more than a bystander in this shutdown. The media needs to take note.

The Democrats cannot independently open the government. Tomorrow, they could say that they agree with spending $5.8 billion on border security and there is no guarantee that it would be accepted by Donald Trump. However, Mitch McConnell could open the Senate for a vote on the same bill they voted for about a month ago to open the government, and the odds are that a good majority would vote to open the government. Mitch McConnell holds more power in this debate than Nancy Pelosi. Likewise, Donald Trump could ask McConnell to open the government and McConnell would immediately bring the same bill to the floor for a vote, which would probably pass with a huge majority. Nancy Pelosi does not have the power to stop this shutdown.

Democrats just have to steel themselves. They cannot give in to this extortion. Republicans are about to awaken a sleeping giant - the people.
