Dow jumps after report that US mulling lifting China tariffs

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 250 points on Thursday afternoon following a report that the Trump administration is considering scaling back tariffs on China.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has raised the prospect of lowering tariffs as a means of advancing stalled trade talks with China.

The Journal cited people close to the internal deliberations.

According to the report, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer opposes the move, worrying that it would be seen as a sign of weakness.

Maybe someone reminded them what happened last time tariffs were attempted. Would be helpful if they would also remember how GHW Bush ended up raising some taxes on the wealthier after tax cuts were determined to be problematic in raising deficit.

We held firm, paid billions in taxes so we must have gotten something from it. Sarcasm.

Too Many Failures (TMF) strikes again.
