Does anyone else email their reps to thank them?

I have 2 GOP senators. I have sent many a emails to them for their voting record and policies.

I was pleased to see that both broke ranks to vote in favor of continued sanctions against the Russian oligarch. I actually sent them both emails to thank them. (And asked that they get the government reopened ASAP)

I'm not sure exactly why they voted the way they did. I'm very skeptical of these guys.

Does anyone else do this?

Is there any point in doing so?

I usually get the "too busy to respond but thanks anyways" reply .

I don't personally know many other constituents who bother to correspond with our representatives.

I usually get the standard form letter with some bullshit about why they didn't agree with my concerns. Sen. AL Franken, after a call to his office about something one of my Senators did, put me on his mailing list but I didn't mind because it was Sen. Al Franken.

Just giving his "credentials" as a federal judge and making the case for appointing the POS.

A Dem will usually discuss some of their arguments if you don't agree with them.

It is good for them to get positive feedback and encouragement, just like with everyone else. Don't you like to get praise and support for your hard work? The staffers are often speechless when they answer the phone and get a "Thank you".

I'm so used to sending emails voicing my disapproval that I was kinda shocked with their votes.

Maybe we can make a difference in any way that we can...

Even though I don't remember when I did last. Would not have a reason to thank my (former) GOP rep and the D's have not succeeded in much.

In hindsight I should have thanked Klobuchar for her courageous stand against Kavanaugh but then, I suppose, she probably was swamped..

It's Management 101: reward the behavior you want to encourage. I think that writing representatives when you agree with them is just as important as telling them when you don't agree: after all, they're supposed to represent us.
