America Held Hostage - Day 28

Remember that old slogan? Well, Donald Trump is holding this country hostage right now, in an extortion scheme where he demands $5.7 Billion to build a useless wall on our southern border.

In the effort, he is demanding that people work for him without payment. Since he can only cut off organizations under the authority of the Executive Branch, he is withholding wages and salaries for people for whom he is the overall boss. Even our Coast Guard is going unpaid, despite their pivotal role in drug smuggling and safety at sea.

He is not paying his own Secret Service protectors, our FBI agents, and even the Department of Homeland Security, which is responsible for immigration and border enforcement, along with the TSA employees who help secure our airways. He doesn't care about our borders, immigration, national security, air safety, drugs coming into the country, or much of anything else.

He is extorting us by cutting off funds to even his own employees. Republicans in the Senate are aiding and abetting this extortion scheme, too. We are led by an extortionist who is holding the nation hostage to get money for useless project that could not even be completed during his term in office.

And we are letting him do it. It seems to me that we should stop letting him do that. How? Well, if you are one of those people who is having to work without pay, take a few days off. Be sick. Don't show up. Your boss is holding you for ransom. Stop being a victim. Walk away from the security screening area at the airport where you work. Idle your Coast Guard boat. Let Donald Trump sit in the White House alone, with a couple of volunteer guards to protect him. Leave your post at the border crossing station and stop looking for drugs being smuggled into the United States. Just leave the gates open so people can come and go about their business as they please.

Don't answer the phones at the FBI or the Justice Department. Stop processing tax forms. Send a message to Donald Trump that says, "I will not be held hostage by my own employer! I will not work without being paid! I will not support your extortion scheme!"

That's what you can do. I'll support your decision, and so will millions upon millions of other Americans. Trump will have no choice but to restore funding for your jobs and organizations. No choice at all. Just do it. Take back your lives and stop aiding and abetting extortion.

Thanks!

6. Sure. We can do that, too, but the impact will not be noticed

for a long time. Why should anyone work without pay? I wouldn't. Not even for a day.

8. You think airlines won't notice they aren't selling tickets for a long time?

If stores have to start throwing out meat, they'll notice pretty quickly. I worked without pay a lot, I called it "retroactive pro bono" because I didn't know I was going to get stiffed after the retainer ran out.

9. Think about this:

If the planes can't take off because there are no TSA screeners or air traffic controllers, the impact will be immediate and affect far more people, making the message much clearer on an immediate basis.

Forcing people to work without pay is simply wrong on every level. When the government does it, the government is wrong. When a President does it on his own, that's Malfeasance in Office. It's a high misdemeanor, and is an impeachable act.

We all do that if we are paid once a month.

These people WILL get paid eventually.

12. I see. So, it's OK that Trump is holding them and us all hostage?

Thanks for clearing that up for me, and for trying to justify Trump's behavior.

I do not work for wages or a salary. I contract with people to do work for them. They pay me.
