Generation Z may be most liberal demographic yet

A generation of post-Millennials is poised to enter the electorate as perhaps the most liberal age cohort ever, fueled by unprecedented diversity and expansive views of the role of government.

On issues ranging from the treatment of racial minorities to climate change to diversity in society, the post-Millennial generation — dubbed Generation Z by demographers — looks a lot more like the Millennial Generation than like their parents in Generation X or the Baby Boom generation, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center.

But Generation Z takes an even more liberal view of the role of government in society than do Millennials. Seven in ten members of Generation Z say the government should do more to solve problems, while just 29 percent say government is doing too many things better left to businesses and individuals.

Just under two-thirds of Millennials say government should do more. About half of those in Generation X and the Baby Boom generation agree.

1. I teach high school

I have since 1988.

This is by far the most caring and accepting generation of kids I've taught. They just accept people for who they are. Sure there are assholes in the mix, but the are a staggeringly low percentage compared to past generations.

2. I really love the fact that my grandson and I are sympatico when it comes to politics.

He voted straight Dem in the midterms last November, in his very first election after turning eighteen. I was so proud...

4. My cousin (18) is the same way.

She told me how she voted straight D. She also registered as a Democrat.

3. I run paid canvassing programs

And high school kids today care. During the Kavanaugh hearings, I overheard a bunch of teenage boys calling him a serial rapist. When I was in HS (late 90s) the boys in my class would be high fiving him. Significant cultural shift.

Also Gen Z seems to be very well aware of how screwed they are financially.

5. And unfortunately urban

This generation is why this country is estimate to have 70% of the population in just 15 states by 2040. So as liberal as they are, they'll only be electing 30 of the 100 senators. The more conservative of them will tend to remain rural.
