Ok, I know in the scheme of things this is minor, but who the hell wears a cowboy hat at WH meeting?

and, yes, a formal meeting with President (yeah, I know) in attendance? Really? One is not required to remove a cowboy hat in the White House?

Is this now a "thing?"

My very subject line made clear I wasn't making this out to be a critical issue given all that was going on, but rather a curiosity.

Thanks very much for your (total lack of) contribution to civil discourse. Do you feel "superior" now? Just as with wearing a hat at a formal meeting in the White House, your posting makes clear that basic manners are now (perhaps irreparably) eroded.

Texas A&M University has this rule. You are set straight in a hurry. The MSC has a Hall of Honor with biographical information on eight Congressional Medal of Honor recipients that were graduates, and most or all were in the Corps of Cadets.

A&M commissions more officers into the military than any university other than the military academies, last I heard. Enrollment in the Corps of Cadets now stands at 2,560.

It's a stockman hat, and yes, there is a difference. A cowboy hat would be slouchier -- the two shown in a reply post, whatever they are, are not stockman hats. Wearing it indoors is another matter. My granddad wore a stockman hat outdoors pretty much every day. He was very particular about a proper hat. It would have a level top -- as shown -- and an ample brim. Straw in the summer, felt in the winter. For the felt hat you get a choice of colors: ivory gray or silver gray. And a gentleman never remains uncovered indoors. Wearing those slouchy "cowboy" hats indoors is a boomer thing and goes with line dancing. And, yes, I have a stockman hat on a peg in my foyer. I must have worn it at least once in the last decade.

are normally the dress for court, and other "high exposure to public events" such as Legislative appearances-- so this assumption that the hat (whether indoors or not) is required, seems not to be the case...

I know this is not a big deal except for the further erosion of norms and "manners".. No big deal for some, but I think it is for many, given how much Trump has destroyed the office of the Presidency.

Special Circumstances. Court appearances, Governor's Security, Executive Security, Legislative appearances, or any other high exposure to public events requires specific appropriate dress, and requires a suit or sports coat and appropriate pants, such as dress slacks or suit. Dress jeans or “Wrangler” style jeans are expressly prohibited.

I regularly wear hats when I'm outside. I mostly wear Stetson and Fedora: wool when it's cold out, leather when it's raining, and straw when it's sunny.

When I walk over the threshold into a building, I take the hat off (even when it's only Costco, which is often full of baseball caps worn indoors). If the hat has a brim, you take it off when indoors.

The only time I wear a hat indoors is when I'm cosplaying. It's four weeks until the Doctor Who convention in L.A., where at various times I will be wearing a Tom Baker Fedora (with scarf), a Stetson, or a fez (frezzes are cool). A few years ago, I wore a Santa costume with hat indoors (I even put a red filter on my mobility scooter's headlight so I could call it Rudolph).
