Want to kick Trump where he'll FEEL it? TAKE AWAY HIS SPOTLIGHT! Deprive him of free publicity. Yank away his chance to make a CAMPAIGN RALLY SPEECH on the floor of the House.
Steven "Hair In A Can" Miller was anticipating using the SOTU speech to blame Democrats for the shut down. He's already got a speech written, blaming brown people and Democrats for all the problems in the universe; and Trump is in a state of giddy, nervous excitement, as he anticipates reading it from Nancy Pelosi's podium on the House floor.
Nancy Pelosi pulls the plug by saying Trump has to delay the SOTU until after the shut down,....OR....(get this)....SUBMIT HIS SOTU IN WRITING instead. Yeah, that'll be exciting. Just let the networks READ your words, whenever they can fit it in.
Why? Ostensibly because it would strain the Secret Service too much to have all the members of Congress, the SCOTUS and the executive branch together like that, without any support staff. A fair argument.
Is there a precedent? ACTUALLY, YES! Apparently, Washington and Adams gave SOTU addresses on the House floor, but then Thomas Jefferson (whom 'conservatives' revere, thanks to his 'tree of liberty' misquotations) started sending LETTERS instead. The tradition of sending letters persisted until the live SOTU was revived by...(wait for it)...WOODROW WILSON (whom 'conservatives' hate, because...well, because Glen Beck TOLD them to).

That's been the Democrats' talking point all day:
-Either postpone the SOTU until after the shutdown is over, or
-Just submit your SOTU in WRITING. I'm sure the news networks will read it on air. Not to worry.
Trump's next move: Go to the TV networks and demand more free air time.
The networks' response should be: "WHAT? We already GAVE you free air time for that stupid immigration speech. And that was so boring, you may as well have used the Trump AUTOMATON dummy from Disneyland!"
By the way, this is SWEET PAYBACK. As Speaker of the House, Pelosi has absolute authority to do this. Do you remember that time Speaker John Boehner invited Netanyahu to address the House, against Obama's wishes, in order to sabotage the Iran treaty? Well, IT'S PAYBACK time.
