since we all pay Federal taxes and expect a certain set of services for those taxes....since there are things shut down (like, my wife and I were at Independence Hall last week and it was closed) shouldn't we get a reduction or refund in taxes?

(9,895 posts)First, the money that salaried government employees are currently being denied, would technically have to be permanently denied to them if we offered tax credits to all during a shutdown...
Second, the amount each individual taxpayer might be entitled to would be vanishingly small compared to the costs and efforts required to deliver said rebates to each individual.
Finally, such actions would unnecessarily distract attention from the root cause of this issue - Trump's childlike temper tantrum about not getting his way and his fragile ego in need of soothing.
Better to keep the focus on exactly who caused this in the near term IMO...
