This is one of the first rules of personal responsibility that I ever learned, and I would hope it's universal.
In any argument with any Republican over the shutdown, it should be all we need to say.

in which case I congratulate you on avoiding traditional and popular news sources, because every single day corporate media (cable, broadcast, print, and online) engages in lazy or outright mendacious both-siderism and false-equivalencies on this topic.

Prepare for the same excuse for Trump. "Trump doesn't count. He wasn't a real Republican. In fact, in his early years he used to be a Democrat."
