This is one of the first rules of personal responsibility that I ever learned, and I would hope it's universal.

In any argument with any Republican over the shutdown, it should be all we need to say.

this shutdown is Democrats' fault...

and remains so now when 2 of the 3 parties noted above are GOP controlled. Weird how that works.

4. There have been many posts on DU about polling on shutdown blame... About 1/3 of respondents

blame Democrats (whereas 1/2 blame Trump and single-digits blame Congress GOPers). But perhaps by "anyone" you mean media personalities...

in which case I congratulate you on avoiding traditional and popular news sources, because every single day corporate media (cable, broadcast, print, and online) engages in lazy or outright mendacious both-siderism and false-equivalencies on this topic.

5. Republicans don't believe in personal responsibility for THEM.

The national debt is only a problem when Democrats are in charge.
Environmental pollution is YOUR problem, not theirs.
Food-stamps are evil as long as other people use them.

After collapsing the US economy, GWB was otherized by the GOP. "He wasn't a real conservative."
Prepare for the same excuse for Trump. "Trump doesn't count. He wasn't a real Republican. In fact, in his early years he used to be a Democrat."
