(25,902 posts)same day registration.
Also, I can go to ANY polling place in my county, whether in early voting or on election day itself, and vote. The ballot I need is printed up on the spot (what a novel idea! And it means running out of ballots isn't an issue. I wonder why other places don't do the same thing?) and I vote. I put my ballot into the machine. It will reject it if I've done something egregiously wrong, like voted twice for the same office. Otherwise, it's good to go.
I love living in my state.

(25,902 posts)New Mexico is a predominantly Democratic state, which is probably why voting is so easy here.

(22,270 posts)It has been tested already in several counties, and has been very well received. The first was Travis (Austin) Since then counties have been added to this system a few at a time, usually one high population county and three or four smaller ones. I believe we will test it in 2019 when we have the Constitutional Amendment vote after the Lege Session is over
This system would also save money! We throw away tons of unused ballots at every precinct here. We had 700 ballots for our precinct but only 225 were used. Wasted paper. I have worked in other precincts where the volume of unused ballots was far more extreme than that. I think it will pay for itself in reduced printing costs myself
We already have same day Federal and State primaries.
We need same day registration, pre registration for 16 and 17 year olds.
One more step to making things better

(25,902 posts)The printing up of ballots at the polling place makes so much sense, especially if you have people from different places voting, who might need different ballots. And it certainly solves the problem of running out of pre-printed ballotes.
Oh, something else. Whenever a first time voter shows up, the poll workers loudly announce that and everyone else applauds and cheers. I only wish that had happened the first time I voted.

(22,270 posts)Two weeks, including a full weekend.
Our vote by mail is very low excuse.
Basically if you are 65 or disabled, you can request to vote by mail, and the elections office isn't too picky about any other request anyway. Call in, ask for it and there you are.
Our photo ID rules have been loosened considerably, to the point where I seldom need to issue a provisional ballot. (extending the expiration date on IDs from 90 days to 4 years helped a LOT there)
